Blossom Parade

Back to New Zealand
Not really our cup of tea, but we got a lift to a town called Alexandra where they were holding their annual blossom parade.

There was not much blossom to be seen, in the end, as there were only 6 floats in the parade and none of them used real blossom! It was still a bit of a laugh, there was a fun fair, stalls, performers and the parade itself. The parade started off with large trucks and slowly worked its way down to tractors, cars and then bikes before the floats came on.

It was good to see another town and to settle ourselves in a couple of different pubs!

Its the old woman and her bloody boot!

This actually looked quite a good float, even though I cannot see to much 'fake' blossom on it. However it was not the winner...

To infinity and beyond!

Yep the Buzz Light year float made the top of the podium with this entry. It was was very impressive compared to the other entries and there was good use of loads and loads of fake blossom!

Ooo another fire truck, with a smile on it this one.

And you really dont want the fire service turning up with this to put your fire out.

Not sure how this one works, those large 'flywheels' must be turned by hand to get it pumping perhaps.

UPDATE: Saw a picture of this very machine in a Wanaka Warbirds book and it was described as a 'stationary' engine. So I guess its petrol driven.

And a few oldy type cars made it on the scene, however somehow I dont think this is an original all the way through - it looks like something out of the wacky races for sure.

There were many other cars in the parade, with a few turbo-charged ones doing a rubber burning standing start in front of us.

Yet another car that I liked the look of, a Zodiac this time.

Its great looking at all these older cars - they just have something that very few, if any, of the modern ones will ever have.

This was quite amazing. Imagine creating an inflatable that depicts one of the best known disaster of all time - and then getting youngsters to slide down it to enjoy it!

Amazing but this ride was quite popular - in fact I would of liked a go. I guess since the film Titanic came out it kinda made it all glossy, what with those scenes of people sliding down the decks into the water and all.
