When Pam and Phil came to play! | The Big Island, Back to Hawaii page |
We managed to cram in quite a bit during this time, with Pam and myself spending a couple of nights along the north shore of Oahu and a trip over to The Big Island for all three of us to see how close we could get to a live volcano. There was a bit of star gazing, plenty of eating, a few games of Contraband (a good original 1950's game that Pam brought over) and even a few rounds fired at the shooting range with a .44 Magnum.
So if you are feeling lucky, punk, check out the following pictures!
Thanks for coming over guys, it was much appreciated...

I made sure both Pam and Phil got a traditional greeting on their arrival by placing flower leis around their necks. Both were chuffed to bits to get this as gone are the days when every arrival received a lei. However if you find yourself visiting the islands you can ring a company and arrange to have someone greet you at the airport and place leis around you! I wonder how much that would cost. |
Phils gotten hold of my digital camera and taken a cool shot of me at my favourite spot on Waikiki beach, just next to the lifeguard hut. The life guards do get busy and I have seen several rescues take place, the funniest when one of the outrigger canoes was sinking with a load of tourists onboard (no one hurt - very shallow). They are forever giving out Band-Aids for cuts and grazes. |

Still intrigued by the camera, Phil takes a great self portrait. Check out the funky colours of his beach towel and that cheeky glint in his eye through the sunnies. |
After checking out the beach and doing some shopping, what could be better than chilling out at the top of the Ala Moana shopping centre with a cocktail It was good to rest the feet thats for sure and they had some live music too - great as long as you are not sat right next to the speaker. :) |

Now although Phil did not buy anything on this day (or did you get that belt?) he is renowned for being a bit of a shopping fiend. By the end of his ten day stay Phil had bought THREE pairs of trainers. Another pair had been spotted but unfortunately not in his size, otherwise that would have been a fourth. T-Shirts are another favourite and his keen eye spotted a few trophies to take back to the UK (that reminds me, Phil - I found one of yours in my wash bag the other day). |
Oooo more drinks. This time Pam just had to order the drink that was on special where you got a blow-up 'Todai Boy' holding the drink for you. Todai is the name of the seafood restaurant with a 180 foot buffet counter which I have now eaten at three times. The trouble with buffets is they let you eat all you want. Yes, yes, I know thats the idea, but on more than one occasion have we come away from Todai proclaiming that we will never have another again! |

The food was truly great, we made sure we sat in the Sushi section every time as that was what we were most interested in. We tried a good few other items too, and there was nothing that was did not like. Even the dessert counter could not be faulted and I did break my record of eating three desserts (however they were only small portions, so I guess it wont count). |

I dont think any of us thought we would ever shoot a .44 Magnum , but yes we did it and the name Dirty Harry kept cropping up for the rest of the day! We were all up for a crack at one of the gun clubs in Waikiki and in the end we each took the 55 dollar package giving us six guns to play with. Ideally we would liked to have tried an Uzi 9mm, but it was against state law to fire a fully automatic! Here Pam is using the Magnum and Phil the .38 Special (sorry I cut your heads off a bit) |

Check out the look on my face after firing the Magnum! We started off small with a .22 revolver and semi-auto pistol to get us going. Moving on up to the 9mm Berreta and a Glock 21 semi-auto, followed by the Smith & Western .38 Special (my favourite) and the Magnum last - boy what a kick that baby gave. We all kept our empty shells from the Magnum and mine now make pretty good incense burners. |
